Florida is the 10th state I have called home. My journey through various states has been driven by a natural wanderlust and a deep-seated passion for community building. I’ve always loved immersing myself in different cultures and communities, finding it to be the best way to broaden my perspective and gain a deeper respect for human beings. Listening to people's stories has taught me that everyone has wisdom to share, regardless of their age, economic background, or belief systems.

Despite living in the same country, many communities are unaware that others face or have faced similar challenges. Often, solutions that work for one community can inspire others. One such concept that I discovered many moons ago is time banking.

During my travels, I also engaged with Couchsurfing.org as both a host and guest. Back then, Couchsurfing was a grassroots movement focused on slow travel and genuine cultural exchange. Unfortunately, it has changed over the years, but the sense of community and shared experiences it fostered remains a fond memory.

Around the same time, I learned about time banks. I reached out to the local organizer of a time bank in New England, and the concept resonated deeply with me. Time banking harkens back to how communities used to function—people helping each other and getting things done through mutual support.

What is Time Banking?

For those unfamiliar, time banking is not bartering. It's a system where community members exchange services without money. Instead of currency, the exchange is measured in hours. For example, if I spend an hour helping someone with gardening, I earn one hour that I can spend on any service offered by another member of the time bank.
