Dear New Smyrna Beach Community,

As New Smyrna Beach continues to grow, so do the challenges we face with parking and congestion -- a challenge that many other small towns are facing as they try to figure out how to remain economically sustainable and find ways to keep young adults and talent here by having opportunities.

NSB community members have a unique opportunity to shape the future of this beloved beach town.

You may have heard that the city of New Smyrna Beach is hosting a public forum on Thursday, August 1st at 6 p.m. in the Brannon Center at 105 S. Riverside Dr. If you have not seen the city's posting, you can visit their Facebook page here to learn more.

If you're unable to view their Facebook page, here is a summary of the City Meeting Details:

During this event, attendees will hear the findings of a six-month study conducted by LTG Engineering & Planning. This study includes the latest local parking statistics and a series of recommended improvements. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity for community members to share their feedback, which will be incorporated into a final report to city officials this September.

A Message from the Stewards/Board Members of the Assembly On Washington (AOW) - Exploring Innovative Solutions:

While traditional solutions like parking garages and commuter lots are essential, there are alternative approaches that can help manage congestion and improve the overall experience in NSB.

Cities like Copenhagen are leading the way with innovative strategies that promote sustainability and enhance the quality of life. They offer free perks and incentives to residents and tourists who adopt eco-friendly practices. For example, Copenhagen encourages the use of bicycles and public transportation, providing convenient options that reduce the need for extensive parking infrastructure.

“The pilot program comes as residents in other parts of Europe have been denouncing — and in some cases confronting — the droves of tourists who flock to its historic cities and picturesque beaches every year, contributing to rapid development and higher costs for locals.” NPR

As we consider these forward-thinking ideas, it's important to remember that New Smyrna Beach, with its quaint charm and small-town feel, has the potential to adopt similar measures -- incorporating similar solutions to create a smarter, more efficient system that benefits everyone.

Assembly On Washington (AOW) - Grassroots Town Hall Meeting:
